Poisonous Snake Bites Man in Fort Lauderdale

green mamba.jpgThe search is on for a venomous snake that bit a cable worker in Hollywood, Florida.

The worker who was the victim of the animal attack was outside a small apartment building on the 2300 block of Taylor Street when he leaned against a small coconut tree and was bitten on the arm by a green mamba snake native to Africa.

When the victim experienced numbness, tingling and drooping eyelids, among other symptoms of the neurotoxic venom, officials administered the antivenin, which reversed the effects.

Officials think the snake was illegally purchased off the Internet and either escaped or was released. For anyone other than a trained, licensed professional to even handle the snake is against the law, and no one in Florida has a license to own a green mamba.

Dog Bites and Liability in Florida

german shepherd 1.jpgOwning dogs in South Florida imposes strict liability on the owners of such animals. The statutory makeup creates little means for error or comparative negligence to benefit the owner in defending against a dog bite.

Our firm handles dog bite and mauling cases in South Florida from all breeds of dog including Pit Bull, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman Pincher, Akita, Husky, Alaskan Malamute and Chow. Dog owners have a responsibility to keep their animals confined and to keep guests and passers-by safe from injury. Of course, each case needs to be evaluated independently to determine whether the animal was appropriately on a leash and/or within the confines of the owner's yard and whether the animal attack was provoked.

Bees Attack Workers in Stuart, Florida

bee 1.jpgThere was a report of an animal attack in Stuart, Florida. According to reports, two workers from a pressure cleaning business were attacked by a swarm of bees that came from a hive about the size of a car engine.

The men were pressure cleaning a woman's driveway when they first started noticing some bees. After spraying the bees with water, more continued to show up until finally the men were forced to take off on foot. They ran a quarter of mile while the bees continued to attack. One man was stung three times, and another was stung nine times.

Interestingly, the owner of the home said that the hive was at her residence for some three years without issue. The bees were not thought to be African killer bees because the hive was too large.

Jet Ski Accident Injures Fort Lauderdale Boy

jet ski 1.jpgA 17-year-old boy on an inner tube that was being pulled by a personal watercraft was seriously hurt when the tube crashed into the embankment of a canal in Davie, Florida.

An investigation was being conducted into whether speed or alcohol were factors in the boating accident, officials said. A teenager was driving the watercraft, said commission spokesman Jorge Pino. Under Florida law, anyone under 21 operating a watercraft has to have a Boating Safety Education card. The commission will look into whether the teen operating the watercraft had such a card, Pino said.

This is a sad reminder to use common sense when on the water. Speed kills!
