A Coral Springs toddler drowned in a family pool that was unfenced. The family members that were watching the child became distracted and the child was able to enter the water. The toddler was discovered by his siblings after he had been in the water for some five (5) minutes. The child was rushed to the hospital but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Florida law mandates that a fence or some type of barrier be placed around all pools built after the year 2000 to prevent drownings. For unknown reasons, this pool did not have that fence/barrier in place. It is not known when the family's home was constructed.
