Both the boy and his grandmother were seriously injured as a result of the car accident and taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to witnesses the vehicle that struck the pair was moving at a low rate of speed at the time of impact and that the grandmother was not paying attention when she crossed the street with her grandchild. Accordingly, the driver of the vehicle will not be charged.

Thankfully, reports indicate that the injuries, although serious, are not life threatening. Should you or a loved one be the victim of another's negligence on the roadways, call the Fort Lauderdale car accident lawyers at our firm for a no-cost consultation.

Pit Bull Attacks Police Officer in Broward County

A pit bull charged a Broward County Sheriff's deputy and, as a result, was shot and killed. The dog attacked the police officer after the deputy was called to investigate complaints of a loose pit bull roaming the streets of Fort Lauderdale. When the deputy located the pit bull it attacked him and he shot it twice. The animal was taken to Broward County Animal Control where an investigation is ongoing. The dog was not wearing a collar and no one claimed the animal.

This is a primary example of why it is mandatory as a dog owner to keep your animal within the confines of your home and on a leash when walking it. Of course, if this animal would have attacked a human being, the ending could have been much different. If you or a loved one are the victim of a dog bite or animal attack, please contact the Fort Lauderdale dog bite lawyers at our firm to assist you.

5 Year Old Drowns in Miami Pool - Left Unattended by Family Member

A five (5) year old North Miami girl drowned when her grandmother who was watching her left her alone. The grandmother decided to go to the grocery store to do some shopping and allowed the five (5) year old to stay home without her. When the grandmother returned she found the child floating in the pool. There was no protective fence surrounding the pool which more likely than not enabled the child to climb in. The grandmother is being charged with manslaughter.

This is such a sad story. As a Fort Lauderdale drowning accident attorney, this horrific incident is a perfect reminder that all pools must be surrounded by protective fencing so that infants, toddlers and children who cannot swim are unable to gain access to the pool.

Pompano Bicycle Accident Seriously Injures Rider

A bicyclist was seriously injured in Pompano Beach when his bike was struck by an automobile. According to witness reports, the car accident occurred when the driver of the car had a green light, passed through the intersection and stuck the bike that should not have been in the street. The bicyclist suffered significant injuries and was reportedly bleeding from the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

As a Fort Lauderdale bicycle accident lawyer, this story serves as a reminder that automobile operaters and and bicyclists need to obey traffic control signs and devices and learn to better share the road. Most accidents like the one reported above can be avoided if people respect the rules of the road.

Law Aims to Rid South Florida of Alien Snakes

Florida wildlife managers will pursue a ban on the import of Burmese python and eight other giant exotic snakes that threaten the Everglades. The move could make the snakes rarer in pet stores, which have put snakes into the hands of owners who later released them, fueling an explosion of the reptiles across South Florida and causing an increase in the number of animal bites and animal attacks.

State wildlife managers, meanwhile, are finalizing plans aimed at more directly controlling their spread in the wild: a hunting season for Burmese python and other constrictors.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission already allows licensed hunters to kill snakes they encounter during small-game and other hunting seasons in wildlife management areas. But the agency also intends to create a two-month season specifically for the troublesome snakes.

As Fort Lauderdale animal bite and animal attack lawyers, these proposed measures are sure to reduce the number of bites caused by negligent snake owners to innocent victims.

Bed Bugs Invade Florida - Website Publishes Reports of Hotel Bed Bug Infestation

Florida is the center of tourism in the continental United States. Accordingly, Florida is filled with hotels, motels, hostels and other paid residences that are available to accomodate its tourists. Unfortunately, many of the tourists that stay at these hotels/motels are also finding bed bugs in their rooms. The bed bug epidemic has hit Florida and hit it hard. It makes no difference whether the facility is a 5 star or 5 diamond rated property or an inexpensive motel, bed bugs find their way into the mattresses and the linens.

However, now there is a website that has been started that tracks hotels and motels in Florida that are infested with bed bugs or where there has been a report of bed bugs biting the guests. The website is called The Bedbug Registry and can be used to determine whether a hotel, motel or apartment complex has had any previous reports of bed bug infestation.

As a Florida bed bug lawyer, I would highly recommend visitng this site before checking into any hotel or motel in Florida. One would hate to have their vacation ruined.

Coconut Creek Man Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Highway Patrol reported that the man was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when he came to an area in the highway with a large curve. Because the man was travling at such a high rate of speed, he was unable to slow down and lost control of the bike. As such, the man was thrown into the guardrail.

Speeding on motorcycles causes many riders to be killed but, more troubling, is that excessive speed on motorbikes causes other drivers on the roadways to get into accidents and be injured. As a Fort Lauderdale motorcycle accident lawyer, we see many cases where innocent victims are injured as the result of high speed motorcyclists.

Miami Car Accident Hit and Run: Driver Hits, Takes Vicitms to Hospital, Then Runs

Incredibly, after the man loaded the two victims into his car he drove them to the hospital to receive medical treatment and then he drove away.

The victims were both treated at Mariners Hospital for injuries resulting from the car crash. One of the victims was released with minor injuries and the other remains in the hospital in serious condition.

Hospital surveillance captured images of the driver of the car motioning hospital workers to assist with removing the injured victims from his car. However, the driver never exited the car. Once the victims were inside the hospital, the driver sped off.

As a Miami car accident attorney, I have never heard of a case like this where a driver hit, took the victims for treatment at a hospital and then ran.

Hospital Slip and Falls - A Growing Problem

A recent study suggests that slip and fall and trip and fall accidents in hospitals are becoming an even larger problem than in years past. The study suggests ways to improve patient safety in hospitals through patient education. It also remarks that ensuring that assistive devices like canes and walkers are availiable to patients in their hospital rooms. It goes on to say that scheduled and calculated trips to the bathroom with assistance from a nurse helps avoid falls.

The injuries that result from slip and fall accidents in a hospital include simple scapes and brusies to more serious broken bones and head traumas. The study found that patients involved in elimination falls - a fall related to using the toilet - were more likely to sustain a more serious injury. Elimination falls can occur on the way to the bathroom, inside the patient's bathroom or while a patient uses a bedside commode.

Our Fort Lauderdale slip and fall lawyers recommend hiring outside nursing assistance to oversee a loved one that is hospitalized to avoid falls.

Has It Gotten That Bad? - Parents Against Canine Killers

I was recently surfing the internet when I came across a webite that promotes the establishment and strict enforcement of community efforts and legislation to prevent dog bites from occuring. The website, www.p-a-c-k.org, or Parents Against Canine Killers, promotes education and safety amongst dog owners to prevent agression and subsequent dog bites and attacks. As a Fort Lauderdale dog bite attorney, I was shocked to see how graphic this site was in getting its message across - calling dogs loaded weapons is a little extreme.

According to the site, 1000 people will go to the emergency room today alone for treatment for dog bites and animal attacks. Most of the victims are children who suffer bites to the face, neck and head. Additionally, most of these attacks will result in permanent scarring and disfigurement. PACK's goal is to educate the public on why dogs attacks occur and how owners can prevent same. PACK's concerns rest primarily with the actions of dog owners and not necessarily the agressive instincts of these animals.

Woman Killed in Car Accident on Florida's Turnpike in Tamarac

A twenty-six (26) year old woman was killed in a car accident on Florida's Turnpike in Tamarac when the car she was driving spun out of control and flipped over into a concrete guardrail. The injured woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the car crash. Witnesses said that the woman was speeding when this incident occurred.

According to police, the woman lost control of her car when she attempted to change lanes. A passenger in the car was injured and was rushed to Florida Medical Center in Lauderdale Lakes.

As a Florida car accident lawyer, I recommend that as part of everyone's New Year's resolutions they make an effort to practice better driving safety, respect your fellow drivers and the posted warning signs and to observe the speed limit. That way, incidents like the one reported above can be avoided.

Driving Course Now Required for Florida's Accident Prone Drivers

In 2010, Florida drivers who are found at fault in three or more car accidents in a three year period will be required to take a special driving course or their driver's license will be cancelled. The driving course is sixteen hours which includes four hours behind the wheel of a car. According to Florida's Department of Motor Vehicles, over 3,000 drivers were at fault in three or more car crashes in a three year time period concluding in 2008.

This story is just a brief reminder to drive safe during the New Year and to avoid drinking and driving. Traffic safety must be taken seriously by all drivers especially when traveling through school zones and roadway construction areas.

Breed of Dog Not a Significant Factor in Dog Bites and Aggressive Behavior

Despite popular belief, the breed of a dog is not a factor behind a dog biting or displaying aggressive behavior. Instead, it is owners who are primarily responsible for the aggressive nature of their animal due to dominance or competition of their pets. Some of the factors that cause dog aggressiveness include: first time dog ownership, failure to subject the dog to formal obedience training, not using physical punishment when required, buying a dog as a present for someone else, leaving the dog with a constant supply of food and spending little quality time with the animal.

Approximately 40% of dominance aggression in dogs and dog bites is associated with the lack of authority of its owner. Although the breed of the dog, sex of the dog, size of the dog and age of the dog have some impact on overall aggression, these factors have a minimal effect on whether a dog behaves aggressively as compared to an owner's actions. In fact, dogs that are trained properly are less likely to bite and display aggressive behavior.
